Antivirus Software
Windows Security (Windows)
Windows Security/Defender (for Windows devices)
UNM IT is working to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance security from an antivirus/antimalware perspective. As such, we are migrating away from Symantec Endpoint Protection to Windows Security for supported Windows devices.
Windows Security is free, built-in to Windows, and includes an antivirus program called Microsoft Defender Antivirus, which provides the latest antivirus protection. Your device will be actively protected from the moment you start Windows (and/or enable Windows Defender, if you previously used Symantec).
If you use Windows, we highly recommend that you migrate from Symantec to Windows Security as soon as time permits.
Note to Departments
Windows Security is only intended for use on PERSONAL Windows computers.
Departmental IT should review How can I use System Center Endpoint Protection (SCEP) on Windows devices in my department for information on deploying SCCM-managed Windows Defender (System Center Endpoint Protection) to UNM-owned devices.
